Colette Loves Canada

Colette and the Hudson’s Bay Co. are giving us more reasons to love winter.  The young Colette, an uber-chic department store on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris loves Hudson’s Bay, the iconic Canadian department store steeped in 340 years of history.  Parisians can now purchase select items from the Bay’s trademark multi-stripe wares including the Caribou point wool blanket, cashmere scarf, Geoff McFedtridge-designed mug, Swiss army knife, and the adorable snowman dress-up kit .  The cool factor continues to rise for The Bay as Colette is known to stock only the coolest of cool. Here are the items hipsters across the Seine are lusting after.

Bringing Bollywood Home

Bollywood Couple CushionBollywood Lady Cushion

It’s almost Diwali, the festival of light, and these kitschy pillows from Urban Barn are making me smile.  They are perfect for adding a bit of Bollywood glamour to any lounge space. Who doesn’t want Aishwariya Rai or Hrithik Roshan gracing their home?  The sequined pillows show the Bollywood superstars in their decadent costumes from the 2008 Jodhaa Akbar period film . Rekha who ruled Bollywood long before today’s ‘it’ girls is also not forgotten.

The jute rice bag cushions would most certainly amuse the farmers back home in India.

You’ve Got Mail

I’m in love with the pretty, new mailbox that was recently installed at my home, a modern cottage in the city.  I thought I would share a picture of it (above) as well as some other interesting mailbox ideas on the web. Homeowners sometimes overlook the small details which add to the charm and curb appeal of a property.  It’s important to complement a wall-mounted mailbox with an equally stylish doorbell and house numbers.

The Suite Life for Eloise

The Plaza Hotel is a New York landmark and one of my favorite places to stay in the city.  If I was six years old, I would want to check into their recently opened Eloise Suite, based upon the mischievous character in Kay Thompson‘s book who lives at the Plaza.  It’s designed by Betsey Johnson in her typical fun and whimsical style that would make any little girl giddy with delight.  The two bedroom Suite provides ample room for children and their parents at a rate of $2350 per night. The fun extends to other areas of the hotel dedicated entirely to the world of Eloise where modern day mini-divas can relax in the Tea Room, get primped in the Beauty Salon and attend Charm School.  I can’t imagine them ever wanting to leave.

A perfect mirror for making sure you look glamorous. Not that you wouldn't already. Especially when you are six.

Well, if one has to have a bawth, one might as well have it here.

Eloise's desk and chair and many boxes of goodness-knows-what.

High-Heeled at Home

September’s issue of Harper’s Bazaar shows shoe queen Tamara Mellon, CEO and founder of Jimmy Choo sitting pretty high-in-the-sky of her Upper East side penthouse.   Mellon and her 8 year-old daughter Araminta are shown sharing shoes and some precious mother-daughter time.  Even with the dramatic decor of her stylish digs, the Choos steal the scene.

Penthouses with Panache

Delphine Krakoff of Pamplemousse Design is a lady I will be sure to call up when I purchase that penthouse in NYC.  I discovered her work on one of my favorite design blogs, Habitually Chic.  Enjoy the gorgeous pictures below from some of her projects in NYC.  I’m afraid though if my bathroom looked like the one below, I might never leave the house!

Pretty Powder Rooms

The powder room is one of the smallest and most-overlooked rooms by homeowners.  However, it leaves a lingering impression on your guests long after they have left.  Here are a few pictures to inspire you to make your own powder rooms fabulous with some chic fixtures, lighting and paint or wallpaper.
